Everything in this song is based on permutations of a single 12-note melody - i.e. a melody that uses all 12 tones in the chromatic scale. Arnold Schoenberg pioneered this approach to composition, and it was expanded upon and developed by his student Anton Webern. We probably had no business messing around with this stuff, but that didn't stop us.
